helping you improve the quality of your life

Welcome to Living Well on Purpose!!

How exciting that you have taken an interest in improving your health!  I look forward to helping each of you reach your goals. My hope and prayer is that your goal is to reach a higher level of health that includes energy, vitality, and an even better looking you. What I have personally enjoyed watching in my patients on their nutritional journey back to health is that their eyes are clearer and brighter, the color in their faces improves and within months they lose ten years off their faces ... and according to the heart rate variability test, take ten years off their physiological ages too. The heart rate variability test (or HRV) is a unique tool for measuring and monitoring improved physical fitness which allows you to track your improvement.

The big question is, what diet should you follow while trying to improve your health?
While there is not one specific diet that I can recommend, there are some specific suggestions I can make. Whether you are trying to lose weight, turn fat into muscle, or simply improve your health, your overall diet should decrease in sugars. Sugars include grains, breads, pastas, fruits, juices, desserts, sodas and starchy vegetables to name a few. Sugar increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and decreases your immune system. Sugar can cause or contribute to arthritis, asthma, yeast infections, food allergies, increased triglycerides and cholesterol, periodontal disease, tooth decay, decreased learning capacity, and ages you prematurely. Do you hear me?  It makes you look old and become old faster!!  It causes you to lose collagen in your skin.  Do you know what that means?  It means double chins and sagging body parts - WRINKLES!!

Many doctors and nutritionists disagree with the food pyramid, myself included. The large portion of grains recommended is detrimental to your health for all of the reasons listed above and more. Modern agriculture has developed special strains of grain. These genetically engineered grains have five times the gluten content as the wheat from which they were originally derived. This high gluten content is partly to blame for many people's intolerance to grain. Using the Balancing Body Pathways Technique in our office, many patients find they have problems digesting grains.  Just by dropping grains out of their diets they started shedding the pounds without changing anything else. (One patient lost 30 lbs in three months, and almost a year later it's still gone!) The vitamins and minerals that are supposed to be in grains are no longer there due to soil depletion and improper harvesting. Herbicides used, even on organic grains, may legally contain mercury. Most breads that sit on the shelf are junk as they are either rancid, bleached and devitalized, or contain hydrogenated or rancid oils and should be avoided. This is one of the best pieces of advice I can offer you, regardless of whether your quest is for a reduced waist size or an increase in health.
